No. 17 Vanderbilt looks to notch first win over Kentucky since 2019

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 17 ranked Vanderbilt men’s tennis team continues its homestand on Friday as the Commodores host the Kentucky Wildcats at 5 p.m. from the Lummis Family Tennis Center.

Vanderbilt (14-7, 4-5 SEC) fell to No. 17 in this week’s ITA team rankings amid a four-match skid in SEC play. Senior Nathan Cox and freshman Hoyoung Roh, the nation’s No. 29 pairing, continue to lead the black and gold in doubles play. The Commodore duo have produced three ranked victories and are 7-3 across their last 10 matches together. No. 70 Hoyoung remains atop the singles rankings for Vandy, followed by sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez at No. 111.

Kentucky (12-9, 3-6 SEC) makes its way to Nashville on a losing stretch of its own, having dropped consecutive contests to No. 16 South Carolina and No. 3 Texas. The Wildcats have generated their fair share of ranked wins so far with defeats of No. 20 Michigan State, No. 15 Duke, No. 20 Oklahoma and No. 18 Auburn this season. Vanderbilt trails Kentucky 29-9 in the all-time series. The last win in the matchup for the Commodores came as a 4-3 result in 2019.

Eli Stephenson leads Kentucky in the singles rankings at No. 22. No. 55 Jack Loutit, No. 89 Charlelie Cosnet and No. 99 Nicolas Arseneault round out Big Blue in the singles list. No. 24 Stephenson and Loutit top the Wildcats in the doubles rankings, and are joined by Arseneault and Matthew Rankin at No. 48.
