NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer returns to its home pitch on Friday evening, hosting No. 24/21 South Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be shown on SEC Network+.
Vanderbilt (5-2-4, 0-2-2) is looking for its first conference win, after taking a 1-1 draw at Tennessee on Sunday. Sydney Watts scored the lone goal for the Commodores after intercepting a throw-in and taking her defender one-on-one for a score outside the 18-yard box. Vandy outshot the Vols 19-7 with Tennessee’s keeper making 12 saves.
South Carolina (5-1-4, 2-1-0) is coming off a 2-0 loss at No.2 Arkansas. The Gamecocks conceded both goals in the first half to the Razorbacks. Catherine Barry leads the Gamecocks in goals and points with 19 points off eight goals and three assists while Brianna Behm has a team-high five assists. In goal, Christina Tsaousis has started every match and posted 32 saves, sixth most in the conference.
Friday’s meeting with the Gamecocks will be the 33rd of its kind, in which the Commodores hold a 15-10-7 advantage. However, the Gamecocks have won six of the last 10 matchups. Vandy visited South Carolina last season, falling 1-3 at Stone Stadium. Courtney Jones scored for the Dores in the 89th minute to avoid the shutout.
