Vanderbilt returns to play, set to host Belmont in Thursday matchup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After an 11-day break, Vanderbilt men’s tennis returns to action on Thursday in a home matchup with Belmont at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.

The Commodores last played Feb. 1, falling 4-1 to No. 2 Virginia in Charlottesville. Vanderbilt (5-2) welcomes the Bruins in a crosstown contest the Dores won 7-0 last season. The victory was the first shutout over Belmont (2-3) since 2019. The black and gold hold a 12-0 advantage over the Bruins in the all-time series. Under head coach Scott Brown, Vandy is 22-7 against nonconference opponents, including a 17-2 home record against such teams.

Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez is the lone Commodore in the ITA individual rankings, coming in at No. 93 in the most recent singles list. Martinez Gomez has notched two wins at the No. 1 position, and makes up the No. 1 doubles pairing alongside freshman Hoyoung Roh. Senior Nathan Cox remains flawless in dual match singles play with a 6-0 record. His six match win streak is the longest of his career.

Morgan Woodson leads Belmont in dual match singles wins with three. The Bruins’ Sabi Roi sits atop the team in total wins after claiming 10 victories across the spring and fall seasons.
