NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore swimmer Kathryn Babbin was named as one of 12 student-athletes who comprise the 2015 SEC Women’s Swimming and Diving Community Service Team.
The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
While she is not representing the Commodores in the pool, Babbin volunteers weekly as a tutor at The Afterschool Program (TAP). At TAP, she works with a second grader on reading and math skills. The goal of TAP is to close the education gap while providing children with mentors in hopes of inspiring a passion for learning.
The Hudson, Ohio native has also helped with a number of different service events through the athletic department. Last year, she helped Vandy’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee team raise money during Commodores Compete for a Cause in which swimming came in second place, raising over $1,600 for Special Olympics Tennessee.
Babbin was also selected last summer to attend a service trip in Morocco through the athletic department, but the trip was canceled. the sophomore plans to go on a service trip this summer with the Commodores.
Last season Babbin was named to the 2014 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Babbin and the Commodores wrap up their season next week as they head to Auburn, Ala. for the 2015 SEC Championships.
