Ashby Named to SEC Community Service Team

Long snapper joined Ingram Center for service trip to Guatemala

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt long snapper Julian Ashby has been named to the 2024 SEC Football Community Service Team. The conference announced the selections, one from each member institution, Thursday.

Ashby is a graduate student for the Commodores hailing from Lilburn, Georgia. He is in his lone season of competition in Nashville after spending his first three collegiate seasons at Furman.

He quickly became a leader in community service on the team through the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. In May, Ashby was among 16 Commodore student-athletes who traveled to Guatemala to help maintain community farms, work with schoolchildren and witness medical professionals fighting nutrition.

Ashby also served as one of the captains for the annual Dancing Dores fundraiser, which supports the Monroe Carrel Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He graduated from Furman with a degree in physics and is pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt.

While at Furman, he was a finalist for the 2023 Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, given annually to the FCS student-athlete who excels on the field, in the classroom and across the community. Ashby will conclude his career having played in over 50 games as a long snapper between Furman and Vanderbilt.

Ashby and the Commodores await their postseason destination, which will be announced Sunday afternoon.
