NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt football’s Julian Ashby has been named a semifinalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award, presented annually to the best long snapper in college football.
It marks the second consecutive year Vanderbilt has produced a Mannelly Award semifinalist following Wesley Schelling’s appearance in the final 10 last season.
The Patrick Mannelly Award has been presented to the nation’s top long snapper since 2019, when Notre Dame’s John Shannon won the inaugural award. Named for long-time Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Mannelly, the award benefits Bernie’s Book Bank, which promotes pathways to success through children’s book ownership.
Ashby is competing in his final collegiate season at Vanderbilt following his first three years at Furman. The Lilburn, Georgia, native has made 86 snaps for the Dores this season, adding to his 363 during his career with the Paladins.
Last year at Furman, he was one of 15 finalists for the FedEx Ground Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, given to the FCS student-athlete who excels on the field, in the classroom and across the community. Ashby was a 2022 CSC Academic All-District selection, a three-time Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll designee and a two-time SoCon All-Academic Team member.
He graduated from Furman with a degree in physics and is pursuing a master’s in mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt.
Ashby and the Commodores return to action on Nov. 23 at LSU.
