Another Tri-Meet in Terre Haute

Vandy swimming takes on Indiana State and Illinois in two-day competition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt swimming will waste little time returning to the pool after competing in a tri-meet at Missouri last weekend as the Commodores are set to take on Indiana State and Illinois in a two-day meet beginning Friday in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The competition at the Vigo County Aquatic Center begins at 6 p.m. CT on Friday and will feature two relays along with six individual races. The second day of the meet, which will include two more relays and seven individual events, is set to start at 10 a.m.

It’s the second straight weekend that the Dores will take on multiple opponents after splitting the tri-meet with Missouri and McKendree last Saturday.

“It’s a quick turnaround going into a two-day meet,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “It’s something we don’t get to do very often, but I think swimming on back-to-back weekends gives us an opportunity to prepare for our midseason meet in a couple of weeks as well as the chance to swim all four relays over two days. Splitting the events up also allows us to put greater focus on each individual event.

“We’re looking forward to a great weekend of racing.”

Vandy was led last time out by Aubrey Hull and Melissa Cowen, who both recorded a second- and third-place finish while posting times that met the CSCAA National Invitational Championship B cut at three different distances. The former achieved the feat after finishing as the runner-up in the 200 backstroke as well as third in the 100 backstroke, while the latter touched the wall second in the 200 breaststroke and recorded a third-place result in the 100 breaststroke.

Madelyn Porter finished third in both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle as well to help the Commodores post season-best marks in all 12 individual events of the competition. Kate Heintz and Sadie Suppiger recorded times that met the NIC B standard in the 200 butterfly and 200 back, respectively, with the duo of Bailey Ratzburg and Liv Gooding each making the NIC B cut in the 400 individual medley also.

The three teams met last season in Champaign, Illinois, at the House of ‘Paign Invite, which is the only time the Dores have swam against the host Sycamores. Vandy and the Fighting Illini matched up on two other occasions prior to last year’s competition, with the home team winning each time.
