Another Record Set, Another NCAA Cut Met

Kailia Utley and Aubrey Hull highlight performances for Vandy swimming in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Kailia Utley and Aubrey Hull both added to their accomplishments this season to highlight Vanderbilt swimming’s results at the Tennessee Last Chance Meet, which took place Friday and Saturday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Utley broke her third school record in the span of nine days in the 200 IM on the first day of the competition, while Hull recorded an NCAA B cut for the second time this season the same morning in the 200 back.

“We had a lot of great swims, which was good to see in the final meet of the season for most of the team,” head coach Jeremy Organ said. “Now we’ll look forward to helping Aubrey and Emily [Constable] prepare for the CSCAA meet and finding out if Kailia has qualified for the NCAA Championships again.”

Vanderbilt is next in the pool when individuals compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship, which will get underway in Ocala, Florida, on March 13.

Meet Highlights
-Utley was the top qualifier in prelims of the 200 IM, with Bailey Ratzburg and Quinlan Hinerfeld going on to finish second and third, respectively, in the event final in the evening.
-The senior also posted the top mark in prelims before going on the win the final of the 200 fly on Saturday.
-Ryen Bosuro recorded a runner-up result in the 100 free final.
-Hull touched the wall fourth both in qualifying and the A Final of the 200 back, and she would also claim the 100 free B Final on the second day of the competition.
-Merritt Zieminick and Kendall Hall both placed in the top five in the 500 free, with the former also finishing in the top three in the 1,650 free.
-Kate Heintz and Meredith DiPasquale also ended up among the top five in the A Final of the 100 fly.
-Taylor Carey added a top-five finish in the final of the 200 breast.
-Hinerfeld was also top five in the A Final of the 100 back, while Hannah Weissman was victorious in the 100 back B final.

Notes
-Hull missed breaking the school record in the 200 back by just .06 seconds after touching the wall in 1:56.39, with the mark meeting the NCAA B cut; the freshman also entered the top 10 on Vandy’s all-time performer list in the 100 free with a 50.58 time in the event final.
-With a time of 2:00.17 in the 200 IM, Utley broke her third school record this postseason after accomplishing the feat in the 100 and 200 fly at the SEC Championships.
-After posting a mark of 17:02.56 in the 1,650 free, Zieminick moved into fifth place all-time at Vanderbilt while also meeting the CSCAA NIC B standard in the event.
-Heintz moved up to seventh on the Dores’ all-time list with a 2:01.11 time in the 200 fly, and she also recorded a career-best 55.54 mark in the 100 fly at the competition.
-Carey finished with the fastest time of her career in the 200 breast after finishing the final in 2:18.58, with Hall also accomplishing the feat with a 5:02.38 mark in the 500 free.
