Andrew Pace Signed by Cleveland Browns 5/11/2006
Andrew Pace, a three-year starter in the Commodore secondary who became one of the team’s top performers in 2005 after switching from safety to cornerback, signed Wednesday with the Cleveland Browns. The NFL team signed Pace as an undrafted free agent after he impressed Browns’ coaches at their rookie minicamp last week. Pace was invited to the minicamp only on a tryout basis. Pace becomes the fourth Commodore senior to make a professional training camp. Quarterback Jay Cutler, the 11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, will join the Denver Broncos, while two-time All-SEC linebacker Moses Osemwegie signed with the Tennessee Titans and wide receiver Erik Davis inked a deal with the New England Patriots. Pace, a native of Mountain Brook, Ala., blossomed as a senior after moving to cornerback following two years as a starter at safety. He finished the year as the Commodores’ second leading tackler with 59 primary stops. He also ranked among the team leaders with 4.5 tackles for loss, four defensed passes and two forced fumbles. Pace finished his Vanderbilt career with a stellar performance in the Commodores’ 28-24 win at Tennessee. He was credited with 10 total tackles, including a pair of touchdown-saving stops. Pace was also exceptional in the classroom. A three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient, Pace will earn his undergraduate degree today in Human and Organizational Development. |
