Vandy’s Eli Stowers receives first-team recognition on Associated Press’ preseason team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt graduate student Eli Stowers was selected first-team preseason All-America by the Associated Press on Monday, the sixth organization to recognize the Commodore tight end this summer.

Not only has Stowers also been named first-team preseason All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, ESPN, The Athletic, The Sporting News, Athlon and Phil Steele in advance of the 2025 season, he has been placed on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, Biletnikoff Award, John Mackey Award and Lombardi Award watch lists.

Stowers was selected a Phil Steele third-team All-American and first-team All-SEC last fall after pacing the Dores with 49 catches for 638 yards and five scores in his first season with the program. The tight end recorded three outings with 100-plus receiving yards in 2024, first at Georgia State when he led the Dores with 110 on nine catches and then after finishing with 113 in a victory over top-ranked Alabama.

The Denton, Texas, native added a career-best 130 yards on eight receptions in Vanderbilt’s defeat of Ball State, as he was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention List after the wins over the Crimson Tide and Cardinals.

On the year, Stowers had team-leading totals in catches in seven contests and in receiving yards in five games.
