NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 13 Vanderbilt men’s tennis has the opportunity to notch its first top-10 win of the season as the Commodores play host to No. 3 Texas on Friday at the Lummis Family Tennis Center.
The black and gold enter Friday’s contest after splitting a home doubleheader on March 13, falling to No. 18 Auburn 5-2 before downing Xavier 4-0. Vanderbilt (13-5, 4-3 SEC) has lost consecutive SEC matches for the first time since March 29, 2025; the Dores dropped a road tilt to Ole Miss, 4-3, on March 8. Despite the skid, Vandy held firm at No. 13 in the ITA team rankings. Along with women’s tennis at No. 12, it is the first time both programs have been ranked inside the top 16 since the 2014 season.
Freshman Hoyoung Roh remained the highest-ranked Commodore in the singles rankings, coming in at No. 70 this week. Sophomore Pablo Martinez Gomez is the other Dore on the singles list at No. 111. Hoyoung and senior Nathan Cox climbed to No. 29 in the doubles rankings after picking up their second ranked win together over Auburn’s No. 25 Billy and Freddy Blaydes. It is the highest doubles ranking of Cox’s four-year career.
Texas (14-6, 5-2 SEC) holds a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series against Vanderbilt, with the two programs first meeting in 2009. The Longhorns generated a 7-0 victory over the Dores last season in Austin. It will be the second matchup in Nashville between the two, the first of which came in 2014; Texas collected a 4-0 win in Music City.
The Longhorns are led in the singles rankings by No. 4 Sebastian Gorzny. Kalin Ivanovski sits just behind at No. 19, followed by No. 43 Sebastian Eriksson and No. 90 Abel Forger. In doubles, Eriksson and Oliver Ojakaar top the Longhorns at No. 19. Two other doubles pairs are also in the rankings for Texas, both including Gorzny: he is at No. 23 when paired with Lucas Marionneau and makes up the No. 67 duo with Lucas Brown.
Friday’s match kicks off alumni weekend for the Commodores; events will take place throughout the weekend, concluding with Sunday’s match against No. 11 Georgia. This includes an alumni hit around and gathering on Saturday, as well as a dedication ceremony of the Lummis Family Tennis Center outdoor courts ahead of the matchup with the Bulldogs.
