SPARKS, Md. – Former lacrosse standout Ally Carey has been chosen once again to represent her country.
She has been named to the 2017 U.S. Women’s National Team, as announced by US Lacrosse Sunday following a three-day tryout at the organization’s national headquarters. The 36 players selected will train in preparation for the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s World Cup in Guildford, England.
Carey played in the last World Cup, helping the U.S. win a gold medal during the 2013 games. Carey is one of eight players returning who led the U.S. to its second consecutive world championship in 2013 in Canada.
Carey, a native of Bel Air, Md., is one of the most decorated Commodores in program history. She played at Vanderbilt from 2009-12 and was named an IWLCA First Team All-American her last three seasons. The program retired her No. 2 jersey after her stellar career where she finished as the all-time leader in draw controls (263) and ground balls (166). She also sits third in assists (69) and caused turnovers (110).
The national team will be trimmed down to 18 players to represent the U.S. in England as the team goes for a third consecutive world title and eighth all-time.
