NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt men’s tennis team suffered its seventh straight loss 4-3 to No. 12 Texas A&M on Friday.
Freshman Dylan Charlap and fifth year Henry Ruger cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles to open the match for the Dores. No. 37-ranked junior Nathan Cox and senior Michael Ross ended their five-match losing streak at No. 1 doubles. The pair knocked off Alan Magadan and JC Roddick 6-2 to clinch the early point for Vandy.
Texas A&M flipped the momentum at its top two singles positions. No. 32 Theo Papamalamis, the Aggies’ only ranked singles player, took down sophomore Danil Panarin in straight sets at No. 1 singles. The 6-0, 6-2 score is the lowest total Panarin has been held to this season. Magadan held control throughout the match at the No. 2 position, defeating Cox 6-2, 6-4 to give Texas A&M its first lead of the contest.
Ross followed up last Saturday’s ranked singles win with another thriller at No. 3 singles, fending off Tiago Pires 7-5, 7-6 (10). The Dores notched their third point of the match behind a 6-2, 6-0 victory from freshman Pablo Martinez Gomez, ending his five-match singles skid. Up 3-2, Vanderbilt was unable to close out the Aggies. Texas A&M generated wins at the final two singles positions to secure the 4-3 road victory.
No. 55 Vanderbilt (8-10, 1-7 SEC) hosts No. 32 Florida (10-7, 5-3 SEC) on Sunday at noon. For updates and exclusive game day content, follow the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team, @VandyMTennis, on Instagram and X.
