Vanderbilt soccer welcomes Alea Hyatt from USC

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Adding to its 2021 roster, Vanderbilt soccer announced Thursday the addition of Alea Hyatt. Set to join the program for the 2021 season, Hyatt comes to Nashville from USC and has one year of eligibility remaining.

“We are thrilled Alea chose Nashville to be her home,” said head coach Darren Ambrose. “She has experience at the highest level of the game with both the U-18 national team and in two other major conferences. She will help bolster our midfield, has a great engine and brings a box-to-box mentality to the game. We are excited at the potential impact she will have in her time at Vanderbilt.”

Out of high school, Hyatt was a highly-recruited midfielder and spent her freshman year at North Carolina. With the Tar Heels, she appeared in 19 games while helping UNC to an ACC Tournament title and a Sweet 16 appearance.

Across her sophomore and junior seasons at USC, Hyatt started 43 of 44 games and amassed 14 points with two goals and 10 assists. In 2019, she tied a USC record with three assists in the Trojans’ opening-round match against Cal State Fullerton.

Prior to her collegiate career, Hyatt spent time with the United States U-18 National Team in 2015 and was in the U-11 through U-15 ODP systems. The Channel League MVP and First Team All-League honoree all four seasons at Santa Barbara High School, Hyatt also played club soccer for Real California, Eagles Soccer Club and Surf Soccer Club, helping Eagles to a second-place finish in the National Cup while making it to the finals with Surf as well.

Hyatt joins a Vanderbilt program that added eight with its nationally-ranked signing class on Wednesday. She becomes the third new midfielder to the program for the 2021 season.
