ATHENS, Ga. — Vanderbilt finished strong at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Sunday as the Commodores put together a solid final 18 holes to land inside the top 10.
A 299 moved Vandy up the leaderboard into 10th after it had started the day in 12th place out of 18 teams. The Dores found 12 birdies Sunday on the University of Georgia Golf Course and finished 42-over-par for the event.
“I thought our kids showed a lot of grit today and we had a chance to make a nice move of the leaderboard,” Vanderbilt coach Greg Allen said. “Didn’t play the last two holes very well. The course played tough again today with winds gusting up to 20-25 mph.
“We’re getting there. We will keep working hard and staying positive.”
Individually, Celina Sattelkau recovered from a rough second round to shoot a 1-over-par 73 and finished 13th overall at 5-over-par. The sophomore now has four top-15 finishes during the 2020-21 season.
Junior Auston Kim (+9) also finished on a strong note with a 2-over-par 73 to come in tied for 26th.
Louise Yu (+12) ended the tournament tied for 36th, Tess Davenport (+18) tied for 56th and Jayna Choi (+27) came in a tie for 86th.
South Carolina took the team title despite a 13-over-par Sunday. The Gamecocks carded a 301 to end up 17-over-par for the tournament and beat Ole Miss by two strokes.
Ingrid Lindblad of LSU was one of only two players under par for the entire tournament and took home the individual title with a 4-under-par 212.
Vanderbilt will finish the regular season April 6-7 at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before competing for an SEC title April 14-18 in Birmingham, Alabama.
