Vanderbilt continued play at the 49ers Fall Invitational at UNC-Charlotte on Saturday and sophomore Panu Virtanen led the way for the Commodores on day two with a pair of victories.
Virtanen bounced back from a tough loss on Friday to Davidson’s Artem Khrapko and won two matches in the back draw on Saturday, including a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Oliver Palmer (UNCG) and a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Jason Lapidus (Duke). Virtanen will advance to play in the A1 singles consolation finals match against Ryan Dickerson (Duke).
The freshmen duo of George Harwell and Maxwell Freeman earned a spot in Saturday’s doubles championship match after a pair of victories on Friday, but the pair fell in the finals match to Maximilian Scholl and Millen Hurrion of Gardner-Webb, 6-3.
