2012 SECs draw to a close

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Vanderbilt swimming team concluded its season at the 2012 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday, February 18, at Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center.

Vanderbilt opened action in the morning with the 200 backstroke. Alexis Mayhall finished with a time of 2:03.21. Amy Salce and Jess Eccher also swam the event.

The 100 free saw Carline Thomas swim the top time at 52.25. Melissa Roberts, Chelsea Morey, Margaux Georgiadis, Betsy Galenti and Zoe Cooper-Surma also competed for Vanderbilt.

Elly Faulkner posted the best time in the 200 breaststroke, 2:20.86, followed by Sarah Lynch, Laura Dillon, Elizabeth Brunk and Rebecca Young.

The top Vanderbilt time of the day came from Margaret Freeman in the 200 butterfly. Margaret Freeman finished 20th for the top Commodore individual finish of the weekend, posting a mark of 2:04.12. Chrissy Oberg followed at 2:10.05. She was followed closely by Alyxandra Vernon.

Erika Deardorf then finished the 1650 free in 19th at 17:08.82.

The championships concluded with the 400 freestyle relay and Vanderbilt finishing 10th with a time of 3:31.54.

Vanderbilt finished the 2012 SEC Championships in 10th with 78 points.
