NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On June 6, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame will present the 2015 Significant Historical Achievement Award to the 1955 Gator Bowl champions. The team will be honored at the annual Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Banquet hosted at the Omni Nashville.

This team finished the season 8-3-0 overall with a conference record of 4-3-0. At the end of the regular season the team was invited to make the school’s first bowl appearance at the 1955 Gator Bowl. In the game, the Commodores totaled 271 yards for the game including 177 rushing in a 25-13 victory over Auburn. Said head coach Art Guepe after the game: “I can never repay these young men for what they have meant to me, Vanderbilt, its alumni and fans across the country. In adversity and victory they have been the greatest. It was a thrill for all of us, players and coaches, to defeat such a fine team as Auburn. This is truly one of my finest hours.”
