Yu Named All-America Scholar

Rising junior recognized by coaches association for second time

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For the second consecutive year, Louise Yu has been named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team for her academic success.

Yu, a rising junior from Duluth, Ga., was recognized for achieving a cumulative GPA higher than 3.50. It marks the 14th straight year the Commodores have had a player named to the WGCA team.

Yu was a key contributor for a 2018-19 Vanderbilt women’s golf squad that returned to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2014. The team also matched a school record with seven tournament titles during the season, including the NCAA Regional Championships at Auburn, Alabama.

Yu was one of three Commodores to participate in all 12 tournaments, finishing the year with a 74.68 stroke average.  She earned five top-25 individual finishes, including a tie for 13th at Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Georgia and a tie for 15th at the Powerade Cougar Classic in South Carolina. She also finished 25th at the SEC Championships and 28th at the NCAA Auburn Regional.

A two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient, Yu is majoring in human and organizational development.

Yu will be one of five letter winners back for the 2019-20 season, joining rising senior Abbey Carlson, fellow juniors Morgan Baxendale and Virginia Green, and rising sophomore Auston Kim.
