NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s basketball scored the first 11 points of the game in its 2023 postseason debut, going on to earn a 71-62 victory over Yale Tuesday in the opening round of the NIT at Memorial Gymnasium.
Tyrin Lawrence scored a career-best 25 points and added seven rebounds for the Commodores (21-14), while Ezra Manjon chipped in with 18 points and Quentin Millora-Brown scored seven to go along with a season-high 13 rebounds.
Vandy will now play host to Michigan either Saturday or Sunday in the second round of the tournament.
August Mahoney led the Bulldogs (21-9) with 19 points, with EJ Jarvis supplying eight points and eight rebounds and Bex Mbeng recording eight and seven, respectively.
The Dores limited Yale to 36.4 percent shooting from the field and made 20 of 27 attempts from the free-throw line.
