After spending the first six weeks of the season as the number three team in the South Region, the Vanderbilt women’s cross country team has moved up to No. 2 in the latest poll released by the USTFCCCA on Monday morning. The number two ranking is the highest for the Commodore runners in school history.
“I’m not surprised that we were able to jump over Florida given our performance this weekend (at Pre-Nationals),” said Vanderbilt cross country coach Steve Keith. “It’s a great honor for the ladies, but obviously the proof is in the pudding. Right now we’re worried about the conference meet and then regionals after that. If we continue to run the way we’ve been running then we’ll be proud of our efforts. They’re coming together really well. ”
The women are coming off a 13th place finish at Pre-Nationals over the weekend, beating out Arkansas and Alabama in the Blue Race.

The team returns to action on Nov. 1 for the SEC Championships in Columbia, S.C.
