LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team ran to a second place finish at the 9th Annual Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky. The Commodores finished the race with 107 points, just one point behind winner Grand Valley State University, who currently ranks No. 2 in Division II. The men’s cross country team finished 38th in their field.

Rita Jorgensen paced the Commodores, finishing the 5K race in 17:22.27, good for eighth place overall. Jordan White clocked in just one second later at 17:23.73, placing 12th. Alexa Rogers was the third ‘Dore to finish in the top 25 with a time of 17:39 in 23rd place.

“Rita and Jordan were very steady up front,” said head coach Steven Keith. “Alexa ran a super race to finish in the top 25.” Finishing in 34th place, Allie Scalf ran the 5K in 17:45 while Louise Hannallah was just nine seconds and seven positions behind at 17:54.

Kristabel Doebel-Hickok and Adrienne DiRaddo finished just a second apart from each other, clocking times of 17:59 and 18:00. Vanderbilt averaged 17:37 on the course, with the top seven runners finishing under 18 minutes.

The University of Georgia women finished in third place with 198 points, while Shippensburg University and Western Kentucky rounded out the top five, with 208 and 225 points, respectively.

In the men’s race, Chris Baker led the Commodores with an 8K time of 25:32, finishing in 145th place. Jenner Kizer, Alan Ash and Bram Chisholm finished within 20 seconds of each other, clocking times of 25:58, 26:09 and 26:16, respectively.

“It was a rough race for the men, as a pile up in the first 500 meters caused both Jenner and Chris to go down,” said Coach Keith. “They fought well and moved up, but in a field of 300+ runners and you go down, it’s impossible running from behind.”

David McAdams rounded out the Commodore scoring with a time of 26:25. “Our overall team average was 26:04, which was actually more than 20 seconds better than our time last year at this meet,” said Coach Keith.

The Commodores have the next two weeks of from competition before traveling to Terre Haute, Ind. for Pre-Nationals, Oct. 16.
