WXC Place 7th at SEC Meet 10/30/2005 Columbia, S.C. – The women’s cross country team earned a 7th place finish at the SEC meet with a score of 161 points. Junior Ashleigh Wetzel led the Commodores with a time of 21:08:44 for a 28th place finish. Closely following Wetzel in 31st, 33rd and 35th were Amy Huss (21:12), Julie Eckerly (21:21) and Caitlin Shannon (21:24), respectively. “It was great to see people really step up this weekend and race competitively for the team,” said Shannon. Rounding out the Vanderbilt top five was Whitney Thurman with a time of 21:46 in 46th place. “The course was much quicker than Pre-Nationals,” said Thurman, “the ground was hard and there were very few hills.” Shannon Capps (21:51 — 49th), Carmen Mims (21:52 — 50th) and Ashley Anderson (22:26.65 — 65th) also competed for the Commodores. “Caitlin, Whitney and Ashleigh all had solid performances,” said head coach Jim Spivey. The Tennessee Lady Vols won their third consecutive SEC title with a low score of 48 points, edging out the University of Arkansas by three points. Senior Angela Homan of Auburn University took home the individual title with a time of 22:59.10. The Commodores will next compete at the NCAA South Regional meet on November 12 in Gainesville, FL. |
