CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Vanderbilt Commodore women’s golf team is in sixth place at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational after two rounds of play with a team total of 583 (290-293) at the UNC Finley Golf Course.
Junior Abbey Carlson is the team’s leader after two rounds with a score of one-under par, 143 (70-73). She is in a tie for 11th place on the individual leader board.
The Commodores moved from seventh to sixth on Saturday with their second-round 293 on the par-72, 6,379-yard Finley Course. Vanderbilt counted Carlson’s one-over 73, a team-leading one-under par 71 from freshman Auston Kim, a two-over 74 from freshman Annie Kim, and a three-over 75 from senior Courtney Zeng. Sophomore Morgan Baxendale is playing as an individual and carded a one-under par 71 in her round Saturday.
“Today was another day where we didn’t have our best stuff, but I thought the girls really hung in there well again,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “They really did a great job of staying present and just competing. We haven’t been particularly great on the greens so far. I’m hoping we get a few more putts to drop tomorrow.”
Duke leads all teams with a 15-under par total of 561 (271-290). The Blue Devils holds an eight stroke lead on second-place Virginia.
Emilia Migliaccio of Wake Forest leads the medalist competition with a nine-under par of 135 (67-68).
The third and final round of the tournament concludes on Sunday.
