The Vanderbilt women’s golf team finished the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in sixth place on the team leader board with a final total of 877 (290-293-294) on Sunday, and junior Abbey Carlson finished as Vanderbilt’s individual leader with a final score of one-under par, 215 (70-73-72), which tied her for 12th for the event.
The Commodores counted Carlson’s 72, a one-over 73 from freshman Auston Kim, a two-over 74 from senior Courtney Zeng, and a 75 from sophomore Louise Yu in the final round on Sunday. Kim finished in a tie for 20th and now has finished in the top 20 in her first three collegiate events.
Sophomore Morgan Baxendale finished in a tie for 14th playing as an individual with a final score of 216 (74-71-71).
“We just didn’t have our best stuff this week, especially on the greens,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “I thought we had plenty of good birdie looks today but just didn’t make enough. The girls played hard and I’m proud of them for that. This team is extremely talented, they work hard and our chemistry is as good as we’ve had in a while, so I’m excited to get back to work and see what we can do next time out. We will use this as a learning opportunity and move on.”
Duke led wire-to-wire and won the tournament by six shots over Virginia with a final score of 850 (271-290-289). Wake Forest’s Emilia Migliaccio won medalist honors with an 11-under par, 205 (67-68-70).
The Commodores return to the course for their final event of the fall when they travel to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico for The Battle at the Beach November 2-4.
