Commodore Notebook: LadyJack Classic

Vanderbilt completes its three-week road trek back in Dallas where it began. This weekend’s event is Stephen F. Austin’s Stormin’ LadyJack Classic at the USA Bowl.

Competing teams and national rankings

This tournament has a similar feel as Prairie View’s two weeks ago – a dozen quality teams primarily from the Central Division.  It might be the only tourney of the season in which all participating teams presently hold a ranking in the Top 25.

Adelphi (24), Arkansas State (4), Central Missouri (16), Louisiana Tech (21), Nebraska (3), McKendree (1), North Carolina A&T (10), Sam Houston (5), SFA (7), Tulane (9), Wisconsin Whitewater (13) and Vanderbilt (2).

About the tournament

The LadyJack has only been in existence for four years and Vandy has yet to bowl well in it for the three seasons its attended.  The first three tournaments were held in Houston. The Commodores have been sixth, eighth and fifth since 2016.  Last year Samantha Gainor made the all-tournament team here.  Of note, the USA Bowl will once again play host to the Southland Bowling League Championship in late March.

Timeline and formats

Starting times are 9:35 a.m. CT Friday, 9:30 a.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday.  The standard sequence of five-5-game Bakers Friday followed by five traditional games and the closing Baker four-of-sevens will be employed.

Following the tournament

Vanderbilt will live stream over its YouTube page (and on occasion, Facebook Live). Results are posted on VandyBowling Facebook and Twitter accounts and a daily recap will appear on this web site.

Last time out

A winless Sunday at the Sunshine State marred what otherwise had been a good performance by the Commodores.  Vandy finished fifth last week in Orlando despite earning the No. 2 seed, aided by the all-tournament performances of Maria Bulanova and Adel Wahner.
