Barnes, Cummins Make USA Teams

LAS VEGAS – Josie Barnes repeated on Team USA, Commodore signee Mabel Cummins earned a spot on Junior Team USA and Adel Wahner was seventh in the amateur division to highlight Vanderbilt’s participation in the USBC’s Team Trials, which concluded in Las Vegas Monday night.

Cummins, a 16-year old high school senior from Elburn, Illinois, was brilliant in finishing second in the U.S. Amateur. She defeated former Nebraska All-American Julia Bond in the stepladder semifinals, 252-198, before falling to McKendree star Breanna Clemmer in the final, 217-181.

Her efforts earned a berth on Junior Team USA, joining Wahner, who had made the team last summer. Wahner, the Commodore junior from New Mexico, finished seventh on the amateur side of this major event, which included the nation’s top professionals.

Barnes, Vanderbilt’s associate head coach and a two-time winner on the Professional Women’s Bowling Association tour, made her seventh Team USA roster by finishing fifth in the record field of 152.

Vanderbilt’s collegiate season resumes this weekend at Arkansas State’s Mid-Winter Classic.
