Quarter Breakdown
First Quarter: Vanderbilt 18, Samford 6
-Fasoula completed a three-point play to open the contest, sparking 12 unanswered Commodore points to take an early 12-0 lead.
-Samford attempted to cut into the lead, responding with four points, but it wasn’t enough as Vanderbilt netted two more baskets to push its first quarter lead back to 12, 18-6.
-VU held the Bulldogs to just 16.7 percent from the field in the stanza.
-The six Samford points is the least amount allowed this season by the Commodores in the first quarter.
Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 34, Samford 16
-Midway through the quarter Samford cut the Vanderbilt lead to 10, 24-14.
-Hall buried a triple with 3:07 to go to push the VU lead back out to 13, 27-14.
-The Commodores closed the half with seven unanswered points, five of which came off of free throws, to set the half score, 34-16.
-Samford’s 10 points were the lowest amount scored by any team against Vanderbilt in the second quarter this season.
Third Quarter: Vanderbilt 58, Samford 33
-The teams exchanged points throughout the quarter, until the Commodores went on an 8-0 run with 4:31 remaining in the quarter to extend their lead, 52-25.
-Vanderbilt shot a game-best 56.3 percent from the field in the third while holding Samford to 37.5 percent.
-The Dores took advantage of eight points off of turnovers, compared to the Bulldogs’ zero.
Fourth Quarter: Vanderbilt 77, Samford 52
-Both squads netted 19 and shot 50 percent in the final frame.
-Samford edged Vanderbilt from beyond the arc, shooting 31.8 percent compared to 27.3 percent.
Inside the Lane
-Vanderbilt improves to 5-8 on the season while Samford falls to 5-10.
-LeaLea Carter collected a 11-point, 11-rebound double-double and led all players off the glass.
-The Commodores forced 14 turnovers and took advantage of 18 second chance points compared to the Bulldogs’ two.
-Vanderbilt out-rebounded Samford 44-to-25.
-The Commodores are now 5-2 on the season when they out-rebound their opponent.
-Jordyn Cambridge collected a career-high eight points.
