NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team used hot second-half shooting to down the University of Indianapolis, 90-60, in a Sunday afternoon exhibition at Memorial Gymnasium.

How It Happened
First Quarter: Vanderbilt 19, Indianapolis 15
Mariella Fasoula netted the first six points for Vanderbilt before Emma Benoit hit a short jumper to put the Greyhounds on top, 7-6. A triple from Brinae Alexander sparked a 7-0 run that ended on an Autumn Newby layup to push the score to 13-7 Vanderbilt. Indianapolis came back to tie it up before a pair of free throw shots from Kaleigh Clemons-Green and another basket from Newby set the quarter score 19-15.
Second Quarter: Vanderbilt 40, Indianapolis 35
The Greyhounds opened the quarter with a 3-pointer to draw within one, 19-18. But a layup from Fasoula and back-to-back shots from Alexander created distance, 23-18. After burying two triples, Indianapolis came crawling back, 26-24, cutting the Commodore lead to two. The teams exchanged points down the stretch before a Fasoula basket and pair of free throws from Chelsie Hall created a five-point lead at 40-35 headed into the locker room.
Third Quarter: Vanderbilt 70, Indianapolis 52
Vanderbilt opened the half on back-to-back layups from Hall and Fasoula, 44-35. Hall caught fire, netting 16 points in the quarter on 6-of-6 shooting. The Commodores forced six turnovers in the third quarter and took advantage of 10 points off of turnovers. Hall closed the quarter with six straight points. VU shot 80 percent from the field while holding Indianapolis to 60 percent.
Fourth Quarter: Vanderbilt 90, Indianapolis 60
The Greyhounds netted five to open the final frame, 71-57, before the Commodores went on a 10-0 run to take an 81-57 lead. Vanderbilt scored seven unanswered to end the game.
Inside the Lane
–Fasoula (26), Hall (22) and Alexander (21) each ended with more than 20 points apiece.
-Vanderbilt has not had three players score more than 20 points since Feb. 26, 2011 at Florida.
-Fasoula collected a double-double in her Commodore debut, adding 11 rebounds to her 26 points.
-Autumn Newby barely missed double-figures in grabbing nine boards and netting seven points.
-The Commodores shot 58 percent from the field while holding the Greyhounds to just 44 percent on the game.
