WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team is set to take part in the Florida Sunshine Classic Thursday and Friday in Winter Park, Florida. The Commodores will square off against No. 23/24 Miami (Fla.) on Thursday followed by Creighton on Friday. Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m. Fans can watch on Flohoops, follow live stats or listen to Charlie Mattos on WNSR 560 AM or 95.9 FM.
STARTING FIVE
- The Commodores come into the tournament after dropping a tough game to Central Michigan on December 15 in Memorial Gymnasium.
- Vanderbilt had led, or was tied, in every quarter until the Chippewas used a 16-2 run to take the game.
- This marks the first loss of the season for the Commodores in games where they have led/have been tied at the end of the first three quarters.
- Mariella Fasoula collected her third consecutive 20+ point game against Central Michigan, fueled by a 19-point first half. With the last games, Fasoula has eclipsed the 1,000 collegiate points mark (1,028) between Vanderbilt and her two seasons at Boston College.
- Vanderbilt added a member of the 2018 SEC Conference Champion women’s soccer team to the roster last week in Jackie Welch.
SCOUTING REPORTS
NO. 23/24 MIAMI HURRICANES
- The Hurricanes carry a 9-2 record into Thursday’s contest, most recently winning their last three on their home court against Maryland Eastern Shore, New Orleans and Colorado.
- Beatrice Mompremier is one of two players in the ACC that is averaging double-digit rebounds per game (11.3).
- Emese Hof has shot at least 81 percent off of 10 or more shots three times, a number that has only been reached 15 times in Hurricane history.
CREIGHTON BLUEJAYS
- The Bluejays come into Friday’s contest with a 4-5 mark before opening the Sunshine Classic.
- Audrey Faber leads all players with 16.8 points-per-game, but Jaylyn Agnew is not far behind, averaging 15.2.
- The duo also lead Creighton in rebounds-per-game with 6.1 and 5.4, respectively.
