Carter collects career-high, Vanderbilt falls to Creighton

WINTER PARK, Fla. – LeaLea Carter collected a career-high 21 points in the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team’s 75-55 loss to Creighton Friday night to close out the Florida Sunshine Classic.

Quarter Breakdown
First Quarter: Creighton 22, Vanderbilt 14
-Fasoula put away back-to-back layups early in the quarter to put Vanderbilt ahead 6-3.
-Creighton went 6-of-11 from three-point range throughout the quarter to put the Commodores in a 22-14 hole.
-Both teams shot 50 percent for the quarter from the field, while the Bluejays shot 54.5 percent from beyond the arc.
-Fasoula and Carter had all Commodore points in the first.
 
Second Quarter: Creighton 41, Vanderbilt 23
-Creighton opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run to move its lead to 32-16.
-The Bluejays continued to bury triples, shooting 64.3 percent in the first half while holding the Commodores to 0-of-1 from beyond the arc.
-Creighton out-rebounded VU 20-to-9 in the first half and collected 16 bench points compared to the Commodores’ three.
 
Third Quarter: Creighton 60, Vanderbilt 40
-Creighton continued its trend of being lethal from the three-point line in the third, sinking four in the stanza.
-Vanderbilt put up its quarter-most in the third with 17.
 
Fourth Quarter: Creighton 75, Vanderbilt 55
-Vanderbilt scored six straight early in the frame to cut the Bluejay lead to 17, 62-45.
-Creighton maintained its pace, shooting 42.9 percent from the field in the fourth to take the game, 75-55.
 
Inside the Lane
-Vanderbilt falls to 4-8 on the season while Creighton improves to 5-5.
-Carter and Mariella Fasoula tied to lead all players with 21 points.
-Carter played all 40 minutes for the first time in her career.
-Clemons-Green set a new career-high with seven dimes.
-Creighton out-rebounded Vanderbilt 37-to-27.
-VU committed just five turnovers while forcing 10.
-The Bluejays netted 16 treys on the game, while holding Vanderbilt to none.
