Women’s Golf to be Featured on SEC-TV 4-21-04

4/21/2004

The Vanderbilt women’s golf team will be featured on this week’s edition of SEC-TV. The show is devoted to last week’s men’s and women’s golf championships, which saw the VU women capture their first ever title, while the VU men turned in a school-best fourth-place finish.

SEC-TV, Fox Sports Net’s live, weekly Southeastern Conference studio program, continues on – Thursday, 4/22 – at 6:30 p.m. (re-airs Friday, 4/23 at 1 a.m. ).  Dave Neal hosts this week’s live, half-hour show from FSN’s Atlanta studio, where he is joined by reporter Jenn Hildreth.

This week on SEC-TV, the show is devoted to last weekend’s conference tournament championships for men’s and women’s golf.  Men’s golf held their tournament at the beautiful Sea Island Golf Club in South Georgia and the women played at the University Club located in Baton Rouge, La. SEC-TV recaps all three rounds from this weekend and looks back at all the action from the tournament.  For the men, No. 4 Georgia was crowned tournament champs by a single stroke, beating out No. 1 ranked Florida (who came in second), while Auburn finished in the number three spot. The No. 7 Vanderbilt women came out on top winning their first SEC title, with No. 10 Auburn and No. 25 LSU following in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

On Thursday, SEC-TV reporter Jenn Hildreth spotlights Florida golfer Camilo Villegas.  Following in the tracks of Tiger Woods, Villegas has chosen to take a different approach to the game of golf.  He chooses to stress the importance of being in shape as well as working on technique.
Working hard and practicing at both have played a significant role in the success that he has achieved at Florida.  Villegas has been nominated two times for the Ben Hogan award and is also a three time All-American.  This year he was inducted into Florida’s student hall of fame – only one of 25 out of a student population of 45,000.  And just last weekend at Sea Island, Villegas tied for fifth at the SEC tournament – his sixth top-five finish this season and his fourth in a row.

Thursday’s “Home Course Presented by BC Powder” asks golfers where they consider their home course to be.  Out of all of the courses these men and women play on, there is sure to be one special course that is their favorite.  “Home Course” focuses on these meaningful places to these
golfers and looks to see what’s inside that makes them “the one.”

Other SEC-TV highlights for Thursday include – (1) the “BC Powder Quick Question of the Week,” which queries conference men’s and women’s golf teams – “Which professional golfer do you play like?”; (2) and the Advance Auto Parts Players of the Week – which this week are golfers Brendon Todd from Georgia and May Wood from Vanderbilt.  Both golfers won the SEC individual title at last weekend’s conference tournament.
