Women's Golf in Fourth at Stanford Intercollegiate

Oct. 20, 2006

Sophomore Jacqui Concolino carded a season-best 2-under par 69 and is tied for fourth place after first round action at the Stanford Women’s Intercollegiate in Palo Alto Calif. The 3-day event continues Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course (Par 71, 5,985 yards).

Concolino posted a score below par for the fifth time in 10 rounds this fall. She started fast with an eagle on the par-5 first hole and a birdie on the par-4 second hole while wrapping up the front nine at 3-under par.

Concolino is six shots behind tournament leaders Whitney Wade of Georgia and Alison Walshe of Arizona. Both players carded a 4-under par 67 on Friday. Arizona’s Adriana Zwanck is third after a 3-under par 68.

The ninth-ranked Commodores are in fourth place as a team after shooting a 4-over par 288. Vanderbilt trails tournament leader Arizona by 11 strokes. The 12th-ranked Wildcats carded a 7-under par 277 and lead second-place and top-ranked Georgia (284) by seven strokes and sixth-ranked Stanford (286) by nine shots.

Vanderbilt senior Chris Brady is tied for 12th place after posting an even-par 71 on Friday. After shooting 2-under par through 16 holes, bogies on No. 17 and No. 18 left Brady outside the list of top 10 finishers for the day.

Fellow Commodores senior Kristen Svicaorvich and junior Liebelei Lawrence each finished with a 3-over par 74 and are tied for 29th place. Freshman Brooke Goodwin ended the round tied for 58th following an 8-over par 79.

Second round play begins Saturday at 10:40 a.m. CT. The Commodores will tee off from the first hole alongside Duke and New Mexico.
