Women’s Golf Begins Play at NCAA East Regional Thursday 5/10/2006
The 14th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s golf team begins play in the NCAA East Regional Thursday at Bryan Park Golf Course in Browns Summit, N.C. The sixth seeded Commodores will tee off from the 10th hole beginning at 8 a.m. CT. Vanderbilt was named one of 63 schools to participate in one of three NCAA Regionals on May 1. Of the 21 teams competing in the East Regional, the eight squads with the lowest score after three rounds advance to the NCAA Championship in Columbus, Ohio on May 23-26. “Our team is hungry and has a lot to prove this week,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards Freitag said. “This region consists of several strong teams but we believe we can compete with anyone in the nation.” Freshman Jacqui Concolino, junior Chris Brady, sophomore Liebelei Lawrence, junior Kristen Svicarovich and sophomore Julie Bartholomew will compete for the Commodores. Concolino and Brady were each named All-SEC in late April. Concolino became the first freshman in school history to earn first team honors. Brady, who earned second team accolades, became the first Commodore in school history earn All-SEC honors three times before her senior season. NCAA East Regional Teams: Individuals: 1.
