The second-seed Vanderbilt women’s golf team begins play Thursday at the NCAA Central Regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor.

The three-day event is one of three NCAA regionals taking place across the country May 10-12. The East Regional is in Baton Rouge, La., while the West Regional takes place in St. George, Utah. Each regional, consisting of 21 squads and three individuals, advances the top eight teams to the NCAA Championship May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The top two individual scorers from the group of teams not qualifying for the NCAA Championship also advance to Florida.

The Central Regional field includes Southeastern Conference Championship team medalist and regional No. 1 seed Georgia, as well as other league members: No. 4 seed Tennessee and No. 9 seed Arkansas. Pacific-10 Conference challengers No. 3 seed Southern California and No. 5 seed Arizona as well as Big 10 Conference champion and No. 6 seed Michigan State highlight the competitive field.

Vanderbilt will tee off in Ann Arbor Thursday at 7 a.m. CT.

Sophomore Jacqui Concolino, ranked seventh in the nation according to Golfstat, leads the Commodores. The First Team All-SEC performer tied for 18th at the NCAA East regional last season with a 3-over par 219, missing an invite to the NCAA Championship by one stroke.

Seniors Kristen Svicarovich and Chris Brady and junior Liebelei Lawrence have the most experience at NCAA regionals. Svicarovich has twice earned all-region honors and owns three Top 20 regional finishes. Brady and Lawrence have competed in two regionals each with Brady posting two Top 20 finishes.

Svicarovich and Brady were sophomores on Vanderbilt’s 2004 squad that won the NCAA Central Regional and finished fifth at the NCAA Championship.

Freshman Brooke Goodwin rounds out Vanderbilt’s five-person lineup. Goodwin was very steady at the SEC Championship in April, posting par on 41 of 54 holes. She tied for 18th with a 7-over 223.
