Women’s Cross Country Team To Compete in Notre Dame Invitational

10/2/2003

The Vanderbilt Women’s Cross Country team will split up this weekend with half of the team traveling to South Bend, IN to compete in the prestigious Notre Dame Invitational, and the rest going to Lousiville, KY for the Cardinal Classic.

The Commodores are undefeated so far this season, and will face tough competition in both meets.

“At Notre Dame, there will be six of the top 35 colleges in the country, led by second ranked Notre Dame and 15th ranked Wake Forest. This will be the first time we go up against a ranked team, and it will be tough. Our goal is to finish in the top 10 and under 200 points. Last year, we were 16th and 420 points. We really want to see where we are compared to some of the best teams in the country,” Coach Jim Spivey said.

“For the Louisville competitors, this is an opportunity to see where they are against great competition. This will be the site of the NCAA NAIA cross-country championships in November, so there will be a lot of teams there to see the course,” added Spivey.

For the Commodores, Jocelyn Theriault, Nadiyah Humber, Erika Schneble, Caitlin Shannon, Jackie Wachsman, Debbie Huss, Amy Huss, Asleigh Wetzel, and Lauren Pence will travel to Notre Dame. Brittany Sizer, Anna Bishop, Courtney Shaugnessy, Joanna Serago, Whitney Thurman, Shannon Capps, Jena Richard, and Lindsey Brown will go to Louisville.
