Vanderbilt’s women’s cross country stretched their legs to a one-two-three finish at the Belmont-Vanderbilt Opener at Percy Warner Park Friday afternoon to defend their title for the fourth year running, while four of the freshmen class on the men’s side got their first taste of a college meet.

Jordan White paced the Commodores in the 4K event with her first place finishing time of 14:05.45, closely followed by Alexa Rogers (14:06.11) and Louise Hannallah (14:06.57).

Allie Scalf and Kristabel Doebel-Hickokalso finished in the top seven, providing a glimpse into what should be a compelling season for the women’s team. Vanderbilt had a 45 point gap over second place Lipscomb University.

Ranked third in the South Regional by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association after finishing third at both the SEC Championships and the NCAA South Regional in 2010, the women’s team have their eyes set on their SEC competitors in 2010.

The women have largely dominated the Opener in the last several years. In 2010, White, Rogers and Scalf all placed in the top ten for a 32 point lead over second place Western Kentucky. They finished first out of 12 teams, while the men finished fourth out of ten.

For the men, Alan Ash led the black and gold in 21st place, with a time of 16:06.05 for the 5K race. Andrew Bachman finished 31st, clocking in at 16:24.60, followed by David McAdams, who finished in 16:29.10, good for 36th place. The team placed fifth out of eleven in the meet.

The Commodores continue the early part of their season at home, hosting the Commodore Classic at Percy Warner on September 17th.
