Women's Cross Country Opens Season

8/31/2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt’s Women’s Cross Country team will kick off the 2006 season this Friday night at the Belmont Opener at Percy Warner Park in Belle Meade, Tennessee.

The Commodores took the race title last season, with Erika Schneble finishing in the top spot for the team and fourth overall.

“This is really a ‘see where you are’ type of race. I’ve worked with the team during practice, but this will be my first chance to see how each individual races,” Head Coach Steve Keith said.

The race will feature top competitors from the University of Tennessee and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Georgia Tech Head Coach Alan Prosky, who reached All-American status under Keith’s coaching as a runner, will also bring the Yellow Jackets to compete on Friday.

The 4k race is set to begin at 5:30 pm, followed by the 5k men’s race at 6:00 p.m.
