BARCA BLOG – LIFE ON THE ROAD – DAY FOUR
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SEC TOURNAMENT
Saturday, March 3, 2007
Saturday’s blog recap is a little more compact than the first three days. By now, everyone knows that our Commodores were impressive in all phases of the game Saturday against No. 10 Georgia en route to a 81-56 win to advance to Sunday’s title game against LSU.
Since I am keeping things relatively short in today’s entry, I just wanted to give you a feel for the excitement around the program right now (actually, all of our programs – it’s a great time to be a ‘Dore!) … Usually after a game, I am stuck in the press area doing post-game work and am oblivious to what’s going on in the outside world until I complete my duties.
After Saturday’s game though, I decided that I needed to postpone some work for a short period of time so I could catch the team bus back to the hotel and capture the vibe of the team. I am glad I made this quick decision. Being a part of this entire experience has been a treat. The team knows there is still unfinished business, but seeing the reward that these kids are experiencing is truly what collegiate athletics are about – the student-athlete.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I hopped off the team bus … but as I walked through the hotel doors, I remembered why I first became involved in sports. “That feeling” was captured in a few photos below.
A smile can say a thousand words. I was grinning from ear to ear.
If you can’t make it to Duluth, Ga., on Sunday, then watch the championship game on ESPN 2 starting at 6:30 p.m. CT. We will provide complete post-game coverage after the game … although extensive coverage may be delayed until we return to Nashville (can’t miss the bus!).
It’s Good to be Gold!
