Women’s Basketball Opens Sunday Practice

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Vanderbilt women’s basketball team will host a one-hour open practice session this Sunday, Oct. 23, at 12 Noon on the main floor of Memorial Gymnasium. The event is free to the public.

The practice session will give fans thier first opportunitty to see Coach Melanie Balcomb’s 2005-06 squad, which features six returnees and seven newcomers.

All-Southeastern Conference honorees Dee Davis and Carla Thomas lead the Dores into the 2005-06 campaign, which gets underway on Saturday, Nov. 5, with an exhibition contest against Anderson College at 2 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium.

The Commodores’ open practice session kicks off a busy week for Vanderbilt basketball. On Wednesday, Oct. 26, select members of the VU basketball programs will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to take part in SEC Media Day.

The following day, Vanderbilt will host “Hoop Jam” – a family-friendly basketball event which is designed to give Commodore followers a chance to meet players and coaches from the men’s and women’s teams. Hoop Jam will feature autograph sessions and numerous basketball exhibitions, with festivities tipping off at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Gym.
