FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Two rounds of the Mason Rudolph Championship are in the books and the Vanderbilt women’s golf team currently sits in sixth place at 27-over 603.
For the second-straight day of competition, the women had to battle the wind, which is why scores are so high for the tournament.
As a team, Vanderbilt shot 11-over 299 for the second round, which was five strokes better than day one of competition. Kendall Martindale and Rene Sobolewski registered the team’s top scores on Saturday as they each fired a one-over 73.
Martindale and Sobolewski are tied for 14th overall at four-over 148. Lauren Stratton and Jenny Hahn come in at a tie for 37th at 10-over 154. Stratton posted a four-over 76 on Saturday, while Hahn registered a five-over 77. Irina Gabasa was disqualified on Saturday due to signing for a wrong score.
Morgan Ransom, who is competing on the individuals leaderboard, is tied for 47th at 12-over 156. Ransom shot a second round three-over 75 on Saturday.
“We had a chance to make up some ground, and we made up some ground after nine holes,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen. “We didn’t have a good finish. We didn’t make birdies on nine like we’re supposed to, and we made some bogeys on par fives. But, I was proud of the effort on 16 today. We shot two-under after shooting it at seven over yesterday.
“Tomorrow, we need Stratty (Stratton) to be Stratty, and for her to get back on track. We’ll be fine.”
Arizona is in first place after two rounds in the team standings with a combined score of 584. Arizona’s Kendall Prince is on top of the leaderboard at one-under 143. Prince is the only player under-par after two rounds.
Sunday marks the final day of competition with tee times slated to start at approximately 7:30 a.m.
