Women's Cross Country No. 3 in South Region

NASHVILLE – The Vanderbilt women’s cross country team, coming off a win in the Belmont Opener on Sept. 2, is the No. 3 team in the South Region according to the latest poll released by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.

The Commodores, who earned a No. 3 preseason regional ranking, are just behind a pair of SEC foes in Ole Miss and Mississippi State while Alabama checked in at No. 4 in the South region. In total, the SEC is represented by six schools in the top 10 of the South regional rankings.

On the national level, the Dores are just outside of the top 25 and received six votes in the first national poll of the season. Colorado is the nation’s No. 1 team while Oregon, New Mexico, Michigan and Stanford round out the top 5.

The Vanderbilt harriers are back on the course this week with the 14th annual Commodore Classic on Saturday. The Dores will welcome a total of 17 men and women’s teams to Nashville and Percy Warner Park. The men will kick off the racing at 9 am with the women following at 10 am.
