Williamson Named SEC's Athlete of the Week

9/26/2006

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Cross Country runner Austin Williamson was named SEC’s Male Athlete of the Week for his first place performance at the Commodore Classic last weekend.

Williamson has led the Commodores in both meets this season, taking the meet title last weekend with a 26:32, nearly 30 seconds before the next finisher in the 8k. Williamson finished fifth overall at the Belmont Invitational season opener on September 1.

The junior sociology/psychology major has recently developed a reputation for wearing multicolored bandanas to practice and meets. While he explains that he doesn’t necessarily need them for a winning performance he admits, “I do feel naked without one. It’s a necessity, like shorts.”
