White prepares for NCAAs

Nov. 21, 2010

While Vanderbilt will not be competing as a team at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships, the Commodores will be represented by sophomore Jordan White. The national championship race features 31 teams from all around the country as well as 38 individuals who qualified at regionals, for a total of 255 runners.

In just her second season competing on the cross country team, White’s finish at the South Regional last weekend earned her a spot at the national meet.

“Running as an individual will be different, as I’m used to running with my team,” said White. “There’s going to be a lot of great people in the race and although they’re my competition, I’m going to have to see them as my teammates and have them push me along.”

In addition to White, the Southeastern Conference will be represented by Georgia’s Kristie Kueger, Auburn’s Hollie Knight and Arkansas’s Miranda Walker, as well as Florida, which finished second in the South Region for an automatic berth.

White is the first Commodore to compete in the national championship meet since Pamela Johnson in 1997. Johnson finished 134th out of 180 runners.

The women’s championship race will take place Monday, Nov. 22 at approximately 11:08 a.m. CT. Live coverage of the event can be found on NCAA.com.
