NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Although the Vanderbilt women’s cross country team didn’t earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, sophomore Jordan White will represent the Commodores in Terre Haute, Ind. next Monday.
White earned an individual bid out of the South Regional with her 11th place finish on Saturday. The top four finishers of each region whose team does not earn a bid to nationals gains automatic entry to the event.
“My focus on Saturday was to run the best that I could in order to help the team,” said White. “Although we did not qualify as a team I am very excited to be representing Vanderbilt as an individual qualifier. I believe that the experience of running this race will allow me to take on a greater leadership role as we build upon this past season and pursue an NCAA National bid next fall.”
White became just the second Commodore runner to qualify for the cross country national championships, after Pamela Johnson competed in 1997.
“This is a great accomplishment for Jordan and it will be a great experience for her,” said head coach Steve Keith. “This is a fantastic reward for all of her hard work this fall.”
In addition to qualifying for the national championships, White also earned a spot on the all-region team after placing in the top 25.
The national championship will take place Mon., Nov. 21 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center in Terre Haute, Ind. For complete championship information, please visit the NCAA website.
