Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt shot a 2-over par 290 and climbed into second place Saturday after two rounds at the PING-Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Commodores’ 5-over par 581 score is 16 shots behind No.2 Arizona State. The tournament host Red Devils shot a second-round best 8-under par 285 to gain the large advantage.
Sophomore Jacqui Concolino posted her second consecutive round below par with a 1-under 71, but slipped into a tie for fifth place at 4-under par 140. Concolino is tied with two other players, four shots behind individual leader Jennifer Osborn of Arizona State (70-66=136).
“Jacqui was very steady today, but never really got hot,” Vanderbilt head coach Martha Richards said. “But this course sets up well for her, so I would look for her to have a good opportunity on Sunday.”
Senior Chris Brady moved into a tied for 14th place with a 1-under par 71 on Saturday. Brady is 1-over par for the tournament at 145.
“Chris made a lot of birdies on the front nine,” Richards said. “The back side is more difficult and tricky.”
Junior Liebelei Lawrence and senior Kristen Svicarovich each finished with a 2-over par 74 and are tied for 24th place at 4-over par 148. Freshman Brooke Goodwin was 5-over par on Saturday and is tied for 47th place at 153.
Vanderbilt begins final round play Sunday from the first hole at 10:58 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
