Sophomore Megan Grehan leads the Vanderbilt contingent at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., after shooting a second-round 74 on Monday. Grehan is in a tie for 29th and has a two-day total of 146 (72-74) to lead all Commodores. As a team, Vanderbilt is currently in 16th place overall with a score of 595 (298-297).
Grehan is three strokes better than Andrea Messer (76-73) and Brooke Goodwin (74-75), who have a score of 149 after two days of play, which ties them for 47th. Marina Alex is in a tie for 59th with a 151 (76-75), and Jacqui Concolino has a two-day score of 172 (84-88, 95).
“For our first tournament since November., we’re not playing too bad,” said head coach Greg Allen. “We’re in one of the strongest fields of the year this week. If you’re not posting four good scores out here, you’re going to get lapped. We’re playing like a team that hasn’t played since November.
“The four girls that are counting are doing some good things. Their timing is off a little bit, but that’s what leaves you when you don’t play for a while. We’ve made some birdies this week, but I really think it hurt us when we didn’t play at Pinehurst last week. We just look like a team who hasn’t played since November.”
Arizona State leads the tournament by a stroke over UCLA with a score of eight-under par, 568 (282-284).
The University of Florida’s Jessica Yadloczky leads all individuals with an eight-under, 136 (66-70). She leads Tennessee’s Nicole Smith by two strokes.
The final round of the UCF Challenge concludes on Tuesday.
