The Vanderbilt women’s golf team ended the first day of play at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in a tie for third place after posting a team score of 291, four strokes behind Arizona State, who leads the tournament. The Commodores were led by junior Brooke Goodwin and sophomore Megan Grehan, who were both one-under par for the day, good for a tie for seventh place.
Vanderbilt is in a tie for third with Purdue at three-over par, 291, three strokes behind the University of Arizona and four strokes behind Arizona State. The Commodores had 15 birdies on the day, including five each by Goodwin and Grehan.
Other scores for the Commodores were Marina Alex, who shot a two-over 74, which ties her for 24th place, Andrea Messer, who fired a 75 (T-32), Jacqui Concolino, who carded an 80 (T-70), and Christine Brown, who played as an individual and posted an 86 (T-91).
There was a six-way tie for the individual lead after Friday’s play. Jodie Ewart of New Mexico, Maria Hernandez and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc of Purdue, Stefanie Kenoyer of Furman, Lucy Nunn of Arkansas, and Jennifer Osborn of Arizona State all shot a two-under par, 70, to tie for the lead.
The second round continues Saturday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
