First Round Results

The Commodores women’s golf team carded a first-round score of 293 at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., and is tied with Texas A&M and Tennessee at the top of the team leader board after day one at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.  Junior Jennifer Hahn leads all individuals and has a three-shot lead on the rest of the field after shooting a five-under, 67, on Friday.

Vanderbilt held their ground at the par-72, 6,308-yard Legacy Course despite rainy and wet conditions.  Hahn’s team-leading 67 was punctuated by a tournament-best six birdies on the day with only one bogey, while senior Kendall Martindale carded an even-par 72 with four birdies in her round Friday, which tied her for ninth.  The Commodores also counted a 75 from freshman Cindy Ha and a 79 from freshman Alexandra Farnsworth.

“We knew the conditions were going to be really, really wet so I’m proud of the mindset they had all day,” said Vanderbilt head coach Greg Allen.  “I told them whoever embraced the conditions would have the best chance to play well. Jenn’s round was so good! She was in control of her game from start to finish. There’s still a long way to go, but I’m sure pleased with where we are after day one.”

The Commodores, the 2014 SEC Champions, along with the Aggies and Volunteers, hold a six shot lead on a trio of teams in fourth. Hahn has a three-shot lead over four players tied for second at two-under par.

The tournament continues Saturday in Birmingham.
