Vanderbilt head women’s golf coach Greg Allen has announced the signing of Morgan Baxendale and Virginia Green to Natonal Letters of Intent, and both will be eligible to compete for the Commodores in the fall of 2017.
“We are really excited about our 2017 class and can’t wait for them to get to campus next fall,” said Allen. “Morgan and Virginia are two highly talented young ladies on the golf course, but more importantly, they are young ladies of high moral character that come from great families. They both have enjoyed success in junior golf in the southeast and on the national level and we will be looking for them to come in here and make an immediate impact with our team.”
Baxendale, from Windermere, Fla., is ranked 27th in the 2017 class and has seven wins on the Florida Junior Tour. She also has two runner-up finishes on the AJGA tour and several top ten finishes, and has competed at the highest level in junior golf at US Girls Junior Championship.
In her senior year, she helped lead her team to a runner-up finish at the state championship while finishing tied for 5th individually. Baxendale chose the Commodores over Mississippi State, Auburn, Wake Forest, Florida, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Alabama
Green of Point Clear, Ala., is ranked 21st in the 2017 class and was the runner-up at 2016 Alabama Women’s State Amateur. She was also the 2014 Alabama State Girls Junior Champion and Alabama Women’s Player of the Year, and has one win on the prestigious American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tour with several top ten finishes. She has 10 wins on the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour (SJGT), and has also competed twice at the highest level in junior golf at the US Girls Junior Championship.
